So protection has no effect on it. 701.23a To proliferate means to choose any number of permanents and/or players that have a counter, then give each exactly one additional counter of a kind that permanent or player already has.
Does shroud stop proliferate?
Yes, proliferate does not target and therefore is not stopped by shroud or hexproof.

A creature with protection from a color “can’t be blocked, targeted, dealt damage, enchanted, or equipped by anything” of that color.

As you noted, a creature with protection from something can’t be blocked, targeted, dealt damage, enchanted, or equipped by anything that has that “something” quality. That quality is usually one or more colors.

Can I block with a creature that has protection from creatures?
First of all, it can’t be blocked by any creature, as a creature can’t block a creature with protection from it. In the case that a creature gains protection after blockers are declared, the creature will protection will not receive any damage.

When you proliferate in a Two-Headed Giant game, you may give one poison counter to a team that already has one.
Does proliferate work on poison counters?
Proliferate neither requires a target nor a permanent. So yes, you can proliferate poison counters on a player. However, Vampire Hexmage needs to target a permanent, and thus, cannot remove poison counters from a player.
Can you proliferate Planeswalkers?
Yes you can proliferate loyalty counters on planeswalkers because they are permanents.
Can you destroy a creature in response to it being sacrificed?
You can’t destroy the creature or artifact that was sacrificed “as an additional cost” to cast the spell, and you can’t destroy or remove counters from a permanent that sacrificed itself to activate its ability.
Does protection cause auras to fall off?
It just grants an ability to its controller. Regardless, again, gaining shroud does not cause auras to fall off. One of the benefits of protection is that it can’t have permanents of that type attached to it. So if you give a creature protection from white, any white auras attached to it will go to the graveyard.
Does protection from color stop multicolored?
A multicolor card that’s green and blue is fully green and fully blue. Protection from blue will fully work against it, because it is a blue card. The creature with protection can’t be targeted, enchanted, damaged or blocked by it.
